Lack Of Convictions

Lack Of Convictions

According to RAINN (USA), only 6 out of 1,000 accused of sexual assault end up in prison, and Stats Canada states that 1 in 10 sexual assault prosecutions ends up with a criminal conviction. The data between the time of report and conviction is not transparently available. We need an independent study to review cases and provide information on how laws can be changed to either support victims better or to at the very least to make the public understand why convictions aren’t made. See our section on Advocating Reporting for more.
